Purpose: This unit will open your eyes to the vast array of religions and beliefs that our world possess.  The goal is to create world-minded students who understand and accept a variety of beliefs and help to end religious dicrimination and terror, world-wide.

Each day we will start our study of a different world religion by watching video that will provide a basis for our learning.

Stations

Three learning stations will be set up around the classroom every day where students will conduct guided research on various elements of religions.

Virtual Museum

Students will each assemble an online, virtual Religion Museum using photographs, sound/music, and short descriptions of each of the 5 major religions.

The Geography of the Religion

In this station, students will map the origin and spread of the religion.  Statistics will be collected to provide a summary of the vastness of these religions.

The Holy Texts and Principles of the Religion

The holy texts and major principles of the religion will be researched to understand the most sacred and important cornerstones each religion rests upon.

The Leaders and Important Figures of the Religion

Each of the 5 major religions has a unique beginning with unique leaders, gods, prophets, gurus, etc. Understanding these figures is crucial for understanding the religions themselves.

Create a Hindu God

 

Due to the abundance of holy figures in the Hindu religion that serve many purposes, you are tasked with creating a Hindu God that represents some or all of the following:

  1. Your core values 

  2. What you find interesting

  3. Your passions

  4. Etc...

This must be a serious exercise; you are not creating this to be silly.  

​

Take this quiz to figure out what attributes and characteristics your god should possess...and to see which god or godess you might be! Be sure to pay attention to the descriptions of your results!

Here are the requirements: 

  1. Create a drawing of your god

  2. Explain what they represent and serve

  3. Provide characteristics such as:

    1. Gender​

    2. Marriage 

    3. Powers 

      1. Music,knowledge, specific weapons, nonviolence, etc...​

    4. Fearful/Peaceful

    5. Demons dealt with

    6. Where you can find them

      1. Natue, home, work, everywhere, etc...

    7. Any other characteristic or part of the story you want to tell about them! â€‹

Task: To combine learned information about the 5 major world religions and construct 2 virtual, religious museums. 

​

Goal: To construct 2 museums based off of class work and discussions in order to deliver information that people who are ignorant to the religions must know in order to crush religious discrimination. 

​

Steps

  1. Select 2 of the 5 world religions that are the most interesting to you or that you believe need the most recognition.

  2. Create an outline of the museum of each of these religions should look like.

    1. Important information​

    2. Key points that are commonly misunderstood

    3. Videos and photos of gods, places of worship, holy texts, prayers, etc. 

  3. Begin to collect the information that you will need for each museum

  4. Construct your museums

    1. Be sure to commentate each exhibit!! 

  5. Prepare for the gallery walk on THURSDAY!
    1. 2 students at a time will present their museums while other students travel to view the museums and ask questions to the â€‹presenters

Gallery Walk

To be done on Thursday, September 29

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Each audience member should come to the Gallery Walk with pre-constructed questions to ask specific Presenters or general questions to ask any Presenter.

  • Per the schedule linked above, Presenters will be placed in one of two galleries.

    • Miss Bowerman's Room

    • The Hallway Outside of Miss Bowerman's Room

  •   There will be 4 sessions that will last for 20 minutes each

    • In those 20 minutes, Gallery Walk guests may travel among the Presentations to listen and ask questions at their leisure so long as they are not disruptive to conversations happening when they enter new "Galleries".  

  • After the 20 minutes ends, new Presenters will prepare their presentations in the 2 galleries and the process will begin again.
